MOVEMBER 23, 2009 -- On the outdoor back set of CW 6 TV News, five Mo Bros got together to discuss itchy and annoying upper lips. We are all participating in Movember--a charity fundraising effort in which we grow moustaches all month and get friends and family to sponsor us for doing it. Money raised goes toward prostate and testicular cance research.
The piece we shot for the CW is scheduled to appear on Thanksgiving, between 9 and 10 a.m. on San Diego Living. Take a look at the accompanying pictures. Mo Bros Rob Molt and Don Litzenberg sat in loaned AlphaMale barber chairs and were groomed during the taping. Bro Matt Curran showed off the Movember calendar his company made last year.
I was dressed straight off the set of Anchor Man set, trying to conjure up the spirit of red-blazered Ron Burgundy. And heroic Bro Eric Galvez stood with assistance from his walker. Galvez is a survivor of brain cancer, and eager to help fight against any and all male-related cancers.
You'll have to tune in on Thursday to see how the piece goes. But I can tell you this, most of us are pretty tired of the moustaches. Curran says he rubs it constantly thoughout the work day. Nobody else had anything nice to say about them, and I was the biggest crybaby.
Actually, I don't recall Galvez complaining. He was smiling and upbeat. Galvez has raised money for the National Brain Tumor Foundation, and started a support group for young survivors. His Web site, mAss Kickers.com, aims to empower cancer patients with knowledge.
I guess I can put up with facial hair, for a cause, for a couple more weeks. The payoff: a Movember party on December 3 at downtown's Bondi bar and restaurant.
And to paraphrase Ron Burgundy: "We'll stay classy, San Diego."
